When they're called to arms,
I run to yours.
When they beat their drums,
I seek your heart.
From the thunder of shells,
To the peace of your mind,
Where I dare to hope,
That we'll be alright.
In the eye of the storm,
In the iris of war,
From the ashes of our sanctuary,
We finally are free.
From the barrels of guns,
Hit the cruelest of tricks,
You return fire,
From your steady lips.
At the core of it all,
Your tranquil embrace,
You whisper no more,
Through the roar of the flames.
In the eye of the storm,
In the iris of war,
From the ashes of our sanctuary,
We finally are free.
Should I fail
To keep you safe,
My darkest hope,
Is a peaceful escape.
And generations later,
Children will play,
For they do not know,
That they play over graves.
In the eye of the storm,
In the iris of war,
From the ashes of our sanctuary,
We finally are free.
I run to yours.
When they beat their drums,
I seek your heart.
From the thunder of shells,

Nottingham Live review!
Ian McGinty checks out the new single from Beeston singer/songwriter EMMA BLADON JONES.
Emma Bladon Jones new single is out today and is quite a step forward from her previous effort Life is self taught. On Iris of war Emma is assertively showcasing a new found maturity without losing the pop trademarks that made her previous effort so charming. “Iris of war” sounds like she’s gone away and overdosed on Massive Attack records and she’s all the better for it.
The track is a big grower all glued together with a deep sampled bass beat which works perfectly with the guitar playing. This coupled with a beautiful and southful vocal (a halfway house between Elizabeth Morris and Holly Ross) makes the track a perfect antidote for a world weary generation.
The result is something rather powerful, and I hope she continues in this direction. More stuff like this please Emma.
8/10
